Multi-Talented Dr Seema Rao Is India’s Only Female Commando Trainer, Know About Her
There are several stories we hear, that inspire us to move forward in life irrespective of the impediments and hardships we face in life. One such story is of Dr Seema Rao, India’s only female commando trainer who has been training the Special Forces for the last 20 years and that too without any compensation.
This is just her profession. Besides, she has a list plethora of achievements under her belt. She is seventh-degree black belt holder in military martial arts, a combat shooting instructor, a firefighter, a scuba diver, an HMI medalist in rock climbing, a degree in conventional medicine, an MBA in crisis management, a Mrs India World pageant finalist and the list goes on…
As a professional martial arts practitioner, Dr Rao is one of the rarest people in the world who have mastered the art of Jeet Kune Do, a hybrid martial art form founded by the legendary Bruce Lee. She also teaches the same form of martial art.
Dr Rao, with her husband Major Deepak Rao, together have been training Indian elite armed force for over 18 years and started the Unarmed and Commando Combat Academy (UCCA).
Both of them have also authored dozens of books like the first Encyclopedia of Close Combat Ops training in the world, produced sole by Indian forces, then the first Indian book on global terrorism — A Comprehensive Analysis of World Terrorism to the Commando Manual of Unarmed Combat. Their books can be found in the libraries of FBI, Interpol, UN and SWAT police.
This is however, not the end of list. She has bagged World Peace Award by World Peace Congress, Malaysia awarded by the Prime Minister of Malaysia for contribution to the country in 2008, US President’s Volunteer Service Award, three Army Chief Citations, Home Minister of India Letter of Commendation in 2009 placing on record the selfless National service in the field of close quarters battle training, and thousands of felicitations from Indian government.
Dr Seema has also produced and acted in a movie about mixed martial arts.
This woman has seen a lot and suffered a lot. She had been posted to some of the riskiest place in the country, once she also got mercilessly shot by insurgents. A head injury once led her to memory loss for some days. But she stood against all the odds, challenged life at every moment. She is a Superwoman.
