Three Transgenders Help Woman To Deliver Baby Inside A Running Train

In India, most people does not give social acceptance to transgenders. They are feared and avoided because many think that the only work they do is extorting money from passersby on road and passengers on train. But on Wednesday, three transgenders completely changed the perceptions of passengers travelling on a train by helping a pregnant woman deliver her baby.

A 25-year-old woman was having labour pain while she was travelling in the Thiruvananthapuram-Guwahati Super Fast Express. It was then the three transgenders — Malathi (26), Shemala (50) and Sankari (50) — came to help the woman. They assisted her to deliver a baby on board the train when it passed through Gudiyattam area. The mother and newborn were shifted by ambulance from the Katpadi Railway Station to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital after the train reached Katpadi at 7.50am.

The woman, Zarina Begum, her husband Allam Mohammed and their two children were travelling to their native place in Guwahati to deliver their third child. But she went into labour pain inside the train. Everyone in the train was completely clueless about what to do. So the three transgenders came for help.

Malathi had six-month training in the labour ward of a Government Hospital, which she had to leave because of family problem. But her short experience came in handy for delivering the baby.

Everybody expressed their gratitude towards the transgenders. Paramedical staff were already reported and they swiftly carried the women from Katpadi station to Vellore Medical College in ambulance.
