No Stretcher Provided, Man Carries Pregnant Daughter-In-Law To Hospital In His Arms
In a similar incident to the appalling LLR hospital case in Kanpur where a man had to carry his sick and dying child on his shoulders for treatment, this time, a man from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, had to carry his pregnant daughter-in-law in his arms to the emergency ward of the district hospital as allegedly no stretcher was provided.
Unfortunately, the woman died after she gave birth to a stillborn baby in a caesarian operation. Her relatives have accused the doctors of showing negligence in their duty. However, the administration of the hospital has claimed that proper care was given to the deceased.
25-year-old Anshu Pandey, a resident of Gerua village in Lalganj tehsil, was brought to the Mirzapur district hospital by an ambulance on September 4 at night. Her father-in-law Kapoorchand Pandey took her to the hospital but allegedly none of the doctors attended her at the emergency ward for about five hours. With grief, Mr. Pandey took her daughter-in-law to a private doctor on the morning of September 5, but again she was referred back to the district hospital.
After returning back to the hospital, he carried his daughter-in-law in his arms to the emergency ward as no stretchers were available. She was again left unattended by doctors at the emergency ward for several hours.
The acting chief medical superintendent Dr. Sanjay Pandey, however, told Times Of India, “No negligence was shown to the woman. We started treatment on September 4 though her condition was precarious. After a caesarian operation, she gave birth to a stillborn on September 5. When the patient’s condition deteriorated, she was referred to Varanasi on September 6 where she died on September 7. I have checked the records of her treatment and found nothing wrong.”
This case is a reminder to the previous case that happened in Uttar Pradesh a few weeks ago where a man lost his 12-year-old son while he was not provided any stretcher at the government-run LLR hospital in Kanpur. Cases like these are a reminder of the appalling state of medical services available in the state. We urge the centre as well as the state government to take cognizance of the matter.
