My Story: People Fear Us. I Have Request To All The Citizens That Consider Us As Your Friends, We Are Not Your Enemy

“We are here to serve people since the day we took ‘Oath Of Honor’ and wore this uniform. The citizens of our city are the most important priority for us. Whether it’s a heat wave or heavy rain we always have to be stationed on road. We don’t get to celebrate any festivals, Holi to Janmashtami, Ramzan to Navratri, Diwali to Christmas, every festival comes and goes but we are always on duty. But still watching our citizens peacefully celebrate their festivals makes us feel happy. Our family is the least priority for us. We are often disconnected from our own children to see to the safety of others children. We couldn’t be a part of our own kids birthday celebrations.

Often it is our women at home who single handedly bring up the kids and look after the household. We have a 12-hour duty, often stretching into overtime. Our role is not limited to checking crime. Those traffic lights don’t work. In the absence of electronic guides, people tend to confuse and poor judgment can result in accidents. This is where we come into the picture. In case of accidents, it is the police who rush victims to the hospital. If your vehicle stalls in a ditch on a rainy day, it is the police that roll up their trousers legs to help out, not passers by. We help blind and old age people cross road during rush hour. In our country, policing is made out to be a dirty business. People fear us. I have request to all the citizens that consider us as your friends, we are not your enemy. We are your protector. For every corrupt police official, there are hundred honest ones.

Any message?
I have noticed that there is a general lack of civic sense in Amdavadis. We can plan and have rules, but if people do not care about these rules, they are not going to help. A little civic sense, having faith in us and the courage to approach us with grievances will surely make it a lot safer world. And through Humans Of Amdavad I would like to request the citizens to provide my other police brothers and sisters with cold water in this scorching heat.”
