[Watch/Read] How All Of Us Can Save Chennai From Getting Flooded Again

A group of enthusiastic Tamilians have collaborated to produce a song ‘Porombukku’. The song, through a humorous twist, aims to highlight and raise awareness on the issue of ‘environmental degradation’ in India. The song commences by reflecting on the cause of the Chennai floods that occurred last year. It discusses the consequences of urbanisation through concretization and the reclamation of wetlands.

The song aims to urge the Indians to actively come forward in protecting and saving our lands. The hollow words we are often offered by ministers and industrialists for the environmental destruction they cause, in the name of ‘progress’ and ‘development’ has been satirically portrayed. The title of the song is derived from a Tamilian word ‘Porombukko’ which means ‘our land’ or in this case, ‘mother nature’. The song is sure to inspire the viewers to respect our nature and work towards its preservation through sustainable means.

Chennai’s lifeline is in danger. The Kosasthalaiyar River and Ennore Creek are dying a slow death. If the river or creek have blockages, the city will continue to get flooded and the situation will get worse every year. Sign the petition and ask the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to come up with a plan to save Chennai by saving the Ennore creek.
