Kashmir Super-40: 9 Students Qualify JEE Advanced From The Indian Army’s Coaching
Nine students from Jammu and Kashmir have cleared the JEE Advanced entrance exam for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) from the coaching provided by the Indian Army’s Kashmir Super-40, a coaching initiative for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, The Indian Express reports.
The ‘Kashmir 40’ is an initiative made by the Indian Army at Srinagar in coordination with Centre for Social Responsibility and Learning (CSRL), and Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) since 2013. It provides a platform for underprivileged but meritorious children from J&K, allowing them to compete at the national level.
The nine qualifiers out of a batch of thirty-six are Aqib Amin, Mohammad Mussa, Bashir Ahmed, Nasir Ali, Imtiyaz Hussain, Feroz Ahmed, Maisam Ali, Shahid Sultan and Jahangir Shakeel.
Twenty-four successful students of the coaching initiative interacted with the Chief of Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat at the Army Headquarter in Delhi on June 13, wherein they thanked the army for shaping their careers despite grave challenges in the valley.
Along with the coaching, the Indian Army also provides lodging and boarding to the select 40 students free of cost.
Speaking to The Times of India, Meenakshi Shai, chief manager of the Army’s Super-40 batch project (CSRL), said, “This Super-40 batch has been in existence for the last three years.’In the first year, not one student from the batch could crack JEE. Last year, 30 students from the batch took the JEE Mains. Out of them, 25 students cleared the JEE Mains and seven cleared the JEE Advanced.” She added, “This year, the number of students who cleared the JEE Advanced has increased to nine. We hope the number will keep increasing by the year.”
The centre aims to surpass this year’s success in 2018 with an enhanced batch strength of 50.
The Logical Indian community appreciates the Kashmir Super-40 initiative taken to help the students with their JEE Advanced entrance exam. We hope that many more students from Kashmir are given the opportunity and guidance to attend prestigious institutions across India.
