11 Years, No Complain For Unsafe Ingredients In Food: Govt. To Pay Those Who Complain Of Adulteration

The central government urges for public participation to get food tested since no public complaints have filed under Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s Special Act (FSSAI) introduced in 2006.

As per the provisions of FSSAI Act, if any food item purchased by a person is found adulterated, that individual can get it tested and the amount will be reimbursed. According to a report by The New Indian Express, an official in the union government said: “In a recent FSSAI audit by the CAG, it emerged that there has not been a single complaint under the Act and therefore, we have decided to widely advertise the provision.”

The process of testing the food materials for unsafe ingredients cost Rs 2000 to Rs 5000 depending on the food product. Even though thousands of tests were done at FSSAI labs, no complaints from the consumers have been registered so far. It is in this regard that Food Safety and Standards Authority of India asks for public participation to combat adulteration in food.
