Kerala Health Minister Alleged For Reimbursing Rs 28,000 For Spectacles, Sparks Another Controversy

After BJP alleged that her medical bills were fake, Kerala health minister KK Shailaja sparks another controversy for asking for a reimbursement of Rs 28,000 for her spectacles. She reportedly purchased spectacles for Rs 28,000 and asked for the reimbursement of the amount from the government exchequer, reports The News Minute. The opposition BJP has demanded her resignation affirming that she has no respect for public life.

The minister later responded by saying that she faces severe eye problem and her doctor suggested her to get a better spectacle instead of purchasing a new one every year. She then went on to say that she will apologise if anything wrong was done on her part. What the opposition alleges is that she had faked the medical bills and asked for an amount of Rs 3,81,876 which is a huge sum.

K Surendran, BJP general secretary of the state filed a complaint alleging that she had claimed medical expenses faking her medical bills.

Flak for treatment

The allegations were also pointed at KK Shailaja’s husband K Bhaskaran, who serves as the Municipal Chairman of Mattannur Municipality. It was alleged that she reimbursed the cost from the government when her husband underwent a treatment in a private hospital claiming him as her dependant. It was alleged that more than Rs 50,000 was reimbursed from government exchequer for his treatment.

Kummanam Rajasekharan, BJP state president, according to a report by Mathrubhumi said that the Chief Minister should sack her from the cabinet. According to him, it is a shame for a health minister that she had opted for the treatment in a private hospital. He further said that she represents the communists whose words and actions do not match.
