Kathua Rape & Murder: Accused’s Signature Doesn’t Match With That Of Exam Attendance Sheet

Recent findings by the forensic department into the rape and murder of the eight-year-old girl from Kathua revealed that the signature of one of the accused, Vishal Jangotra, does not match the one that he claimed to have signed in an exam attendance sheet in Meerut to prove that he was not at the crime scene.

The report by the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL), detailing this conclusion, has been submitted to the crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir police, according to officials in the investigation team, reported NDTV.

On May 17, Supreme Court gave the go-ahead to the crime branch on the further examination of three friends of Vishal Jangotra, who claimed they were being harassed by the crime branch.

The “Questioner of Examined Documents” (QED), who is an expert on examination of handwriting samples, opined that the signatures on the attendance sheet did not match with that of Vishal, son of Sanji Ram, the alleged mastermind of the murder, the officials said.

The officials suspected that someone else gave the exam as Vishal Jangotra because his train reached late to Meerut that day(15th January) from Jammu. The officials also alleged that the accused had deliberately visited an ATM and was seen looking at the camera to create an alibi for himself.

Vishal Jangotra, who is pursuing the bachelor of agriculture course from a college in Meerut is one of the accused in the rape and murder of eight-year-old rape victim. He reached Jammu to “satisfy his lust” after he received a call from the other accused about the abduction. He claimed that he was in Meerut, giving an exam when the crime took place.

CCTV Footage

Vishal had said during interrogation that he was writing his exam at a centre in Khatauli, Muzaffarnagar during the time of the rape. Same was claimed by Jangotra’s parents.

Gyan Prakash Shrivastav, registrar, Chaudhary Charan Singh (CCS) University, Meerut had said during the second week of April, that the CCTV footage and the digital video recording of the exam centre have shown that Vishal, along with three other students did not appear for the exam. According to the registrar, all the four students were pursuing B.Sc Agriculture at Aakanksha College, Meerapur and had submitted fake documents.

Shrivastav said, “The SIT sleuths took the CCTV footage of the exam centre at KK Jain College in Khatauli with them. Vishal and the other three students were not seen in the video recording conducted on the day of the examination. It might be a case of sending a proxy candidate to write the exam.” Now, the signature has proved to be forged as well.
